An Emerging Opportunity

As the scope of WBM has grown across Western Canada, a tremendous opportunity has emerged. At the heart of our core values as a group of people is a fundamental belief in the impact and the importance in giving back.

3,000 customers and 150 staff strong, every act, if done together, can be profound in creating change, inspiration and promise in each of the communities that we live and work in.

To each of us at WBM, community means the opportunity to be at the centre of an amazing group of business leaders, corporate partners and IT professionals, and community means the opportunity to come together to exchange ideas, evolve our organizations, and to be a part of something great.

The Promise Of Our Future

Partnering with local charities such as Care & Share, WBM focuses its community efforts on programs and efforts that provide opportunities to the children, especially those who face, less-privileged situations than others.

From meeting professional hockey players to performing with a rock band, we want to show the children of our communities that against the steepest of odds their dreams can be reached.

In 2014, the WBM client community recreated one of the most amazing moments of all the charity events we’ve held, as 400 people came together to once again build bikes for 60 amazing children. Working together, the WBM community assembled bike after bike, finished right down to the WBM racing stickers and packaged with matching helmets and locks. Once again the bikes were safety-inspected by our friend and local bike shop Doug's Spoke'n Sport, and the names of each child were held up as they entered the room to find their exciting gift and meet the people who helped make it happen.

In 2011, WBM and Apple announced a partnership to help businesses capture the power of Apple's amazing mobile technologies. WBM took the partnership to the children of our communities, announcing that Apple devices would be donated to Vincent Massey Community School as teaching aids and student attendance program incentives. The announcement was celebrated by over 400 members of the WBM client community as they were treated to an emotional concert featuring The Gutterdogs, a local band comprised of the sons of several WBM staff, and the students of Vincent Massey, who sang their version of "With a Little Help From Our Friends" as a choir with the band.

In 2009 WBM plays the role of host as the New York Islanders Training Camp comes to the province, along with the Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Ottawa Senators. As part of the initiative, we raised over $10,000 in support of local food banks, held a party in the park for children to meet the players, and bussed all 18 Community schools into Credit Union Centre for the NHL experience. Together with the New York Islanders Hockey Club, WBM outfitted 2 KidSport hockey teams - consisting of children who might otherwise not have the chance to play an organized sport - with official Islanders hockey gear, autographed by NHL stars Brendan Witt & Doug Weight.
